Web Browser Pop-up Configuration

These detailed instructions will guide you through the process of configuring Pop-up windows in your web browser.

Safari (Mac)

  1. Open Safari, click "Safari" from the top menu, then select "Preferences".
  2. Click the "Security" tab.
  3. Check "Block pop-up windows".

Google Chrome (Mac)

  1. Begin by opening up Google Chrome and select "Settings" from the menu at the top right of the window.
  2. Click on "Show advanced settings".
  3. Under "Privacy", click on "Content settings".
  4. Scroll down to "Pop-ups" and select "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended)".
  5. Click "Done".

Internet Explorer 7 and 8

Enabling and Disabling Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker

  1. Begin by opening up Internet Explorer and selecting "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu.
  2. Select the "Privacy" tab.
  3. Under the section "Pop-up blocker" the check box for "Turn on Pop-up Blocker" will correspond if your Pop-up blocker is enabled or disabled. If you would like your Pop-up blocker disabled uncheck the box. Alternatively if you would like to enable your Pop-up blocker place a check in the box. To continue configuring the Internet Explorer 7 Pop-up Blocker, move on to the next step. If you are finished click "OK".

Removing or allowing site exceptions to the Pop-up Blocker settings.

  1. From the "Privacy" tab click on the "Settings" button. ("Turn on Pop-up Blocker" must be checked in order to go into "Settings".)
  2. The "Pop-up Blocker Settings" window will now appear. To allow a website in the box labeled "Address of website to allow" enter the website you would like Pop-ups to be allowed. Click "Add" to place it in the "Allowed sites" list.
  3. If you no longer want to have a site allowed, select the site from the "Allowed sites" list and click "Remove" Alternatively if you would like to remove all websites from this list, click "Remove all" To continue configuring the Internet Explorer 7 Pop-up Blocker, move on to the next step. If you are finished click "Close".

Changing the Pop-up Blocker filter level

  1. From the "Pop-up Blocker Settings" window you may change the level of which the Pop-up Blocker will automatically block Pop-ups. To change the "Filter level" click on the drop down box, by default the "Medium: Block most automatic pop-ups" level is selected. Select the level that you want to use.

You have just configured Internet Explorer 7 built in Pop-up Blocker, you may close out of the "Pop-up Blocker settings" and the "Internet Options" windows.

Firefox (Mac)

Enabling and Disabling Firefox Pop-up Blocker

  1. Begin by opening up Firefox and selecting "Preferences" from the "Firefox" menu.
  2. Select the "Content" tab.
  3. The "Block pop-up windows" check box will correspond if your pop-up blocker is enabled or disabled. If you would like your pop-up blocker disabled uncheck the box. Alternatively, to enable your pop-up blocker place a check in the box. To continue configuring the Firefox pop-up blocker, move on to the next step. If you are finished, close the "Content" window.
  4. Removing or allowing site exceptions to the Pop-up Blocker settings.
    1. From the "Content" tab click on the "Exceptions" button.
      Note: "Block pop-up windows" must be checked in order to go into "Exceptions".
    2. The "Allowed Sites – Pop-ups" window will now appear. To allow a website enter the website address in the field labeled, "Address of web site" Click "Allow" to place it in the Allowed list.
    3. If you no longer want to have a site allowed, select the site from the list and click "Remove Site". Alternatively, to remove all websites from this list click "Remove All Sites".

Google Chrome (Windows)

  1. Begin by opening up Google Chrome and select "Options" from the "Customize and control Google Chrome" button at the top.
  2. The "Google Chrome Options" window will now open, click on the "Under the Hood" tab if it is not the current tab and click on the "Content settings" button.
  3. Click on the "Pop-ups" tab and select the option "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended)". Click on the "Close" button to save your changes.
  4. When finished, click "Close".

Internet Explorer 9+

  1. Open Opera, click "Opera" from the top menu, then select "Preferences".
  2. Click "Websites" on the left column.
  3. Scroll down to the "Pop-ups" section and select "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended)".

Opera (Windows)

  1. Begin by opening up Opera. Click on the "Opera" menu, highlight "Settings", and select "Preferences".
  2. The "Preferences" window will now open, click on the "General" tab if it is not the current tab. Select "Block unwanted pop-ups" to block unwanted pop-ups. Alternatively, to allow pop-ups select "Open all pop-ups".
  3. When finished, click "OK".
