Configure SSL

Please be aware that many anti-virus programs cannot scan email when SSL is enabled. In order to use SSL in this circumstance, you must disable outgoing email scanning in your anti-virus software when SSL is enabled. Please contact your anti-virus software manufacturer or computer vendor for more information.

Outlook 2011 (Mac)

  1. Begin by opening Outlook 2011. Select "Accounts" from the "Tools" menu.
  2. The "Accounts" window will now open. Under "Incoming server" settings, place a check in the box next to "Use SSL to connect (recommended)".
  3. Under "Outgoing server" settings, place a check in the box next to "Use SSL to connect (recommended)".
  4. Click the close button.

Microsoft Outlook 2007 (Windows)

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook by either selecting the "Microsoft Outlook" icon from the Windows "Desktop" or by selecting the "Microsoft Outlook" icon from the "Start" menu (known as the "Windows" menu in Vista).
  2. To begin, choose "Account Settings" from the "Tools" menu.
  3. The Outlook "Accounts Settings" dialog box will now appear. Select your PenTeleData email account from the list below, and click "Change".
  4. On the "Change Email Account" window click "More Settings".
  5. The Outlook "Internet Email Settings" dialog box will now appear. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  6. Under "Incoming server (POP3)" place a "check" in the box next to "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" by clicking on the box once with the left mouse button. Under "Outgoing server (SMTP)" select "SSL" from the "Use the following type of encrypted connection" drop down box. When your window resembles the one below, click "OK".
  7. You will now be returned to the "Change Email Account" window, click "Next" to continue.
  8. To finish setting up you email to use SSL click "Finish".

Opera (Mac)

  1. Begin by opening up Opera and select "Mail and Chat Accounts" from the "Tools" menu at the top.

  2. The "Manage Accounts" window will now open, select your PenTeleData email account and click "Edit".

  3. Select the "Servers" tab.
  4. Under "Incoming POP server" place a check in the box next to "Secure connection (TLS)".

  5. Under "Outgoing SMTP server" place a check in the box next to "Secure connection (TLS)".

  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.
  7. Click "Close" to finish setting up your email to use SSL.

Opera (Windows)

  1. Begin by opening up Opera and select "Mail and Chat Accounts" from the "Opera" menu.
  2. The "Manage Accounts" window will now open, select your PenTeleData email account and click "Edit".
  3. Select the "Servers" tab.
  4. Under "Incoming POP server" place a check in the box next to "Secure connection (TLS)".
  5. Under "Outgoing SMTP server" place a check in the box next to "Secure connection (TLS)".
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.
  7. Click "Close" to finish setting up your email to use SSL.

MacMail 1.5

  1. Open Mail by clicking the "Mail" icon in the "Dock" or by selecting "Applications" from the "Go" menu at the top.
  2. Select "Preferences" from the "Mail" menu at the top.
  3. Click on the "Accounts" button on the "General" window.
  4. The "Accounts" window will now appear. Select your PenTeleData email account from the "Accounts" list on the left if it is not already selected. Then click on the "Advanced" tab to continue.
  5. On the "Advanced" tab, place a "check" in the box next to "Use SSL" by clicking on the box once with the mouse button.
  6. Click on the "Account Information" tab.
  7. Click on the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" drop down menu.
  8. Click on "Edit Server List"
  9. Click on the "Advanced" Tab to continue.
  10. Place a "check" in the box next to "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" by clicking on the box once with the mouse button.
  11. Click "OK".
  12. Click on the close button.
  13. You will be prompted to save your changes, click "Save".

Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows)

  1. Begin by opening up Outlook 2010. Click on the "File" menu and select "Account Settings" from the "Account Settings" button.
  2. The Outlook "Accounts Settings" dialog box will now appear. Select your PenTeleData email account from the list below, and click "Change".
  3. On the "Change Email Account" window click "More Settings".
  4. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  5. Under "Incoming server (POP3)" place a "check" in the box next to "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" by clicking on the box once with the left mouse button.
  6. Under "Outgoing server (SMTP)" select "Auto" from the "Use the following type of encrypted connection" drop down box.
  7. When your window resembles the one below, click "OK".
  8. You will now be returned to the "Change Account" window, click "Next".
  9. The "Test Account Settings" window will now open. Once it has completed the tests, click "Close".
  10. Click "Finish".
  11. Click "Close" to exit the "Account Settings".

Windows Vista Mail

  1. Open Windows Mail by either selecting the "Windows Mail" icon from the Windows "Desktop" or by selecting the "Windows Mail" icon from the "Windows" menu (formerly known as the "Start" menu).
  2. Select "Accounts" from the "Tools" menu at the top.
  3. The Windows Mail "Internet Accounts" dialog box will now appear. Select your PenTeleData email account and click on the "Properties" button to your right.
  4. The "promail.ptd.net Properties" dialogue box will now appear. Click on the "Advanced" tab at the top of the properties window.
  5. Under "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" place a "check" in the box next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" by clicking on the box once with he left mouse button.
  6. Under "Incoming mail (POP3)" place a "check" in the box next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" by clicking on the box once with the left mouse button.
  7. Click "OK" at the bottom of the properties window.
  8. Finally, click on the "Close" button in the lower right of the "Internet Accounts" window and your new settings have been saved.
