This specific information regarding PenTeleData hosted websites on Windows based servers.

Is FTP available?

Yes, using an FTP client, connect to ftp.nt.ptd.net and authenticate using the same username and password you use with FrontPage.

The program I’m trying to install requires root level access to complete the installation, what should I do?

PenTeleData does not support the installation of third party software/libraries on our shared hosting environment. If you need software which needs installation access beyond your allotted web hosting space, please contact the Commercial Sales Department to discuss managed server solutions which may fit your needs.

What scripting formats can I use on my website?

Websites hosted on our Windows network may use ASP and ASP.Net V1.1. You may also use ASP.Net v2.0 and PHP, but you must first email webmaster@ptd.net to activate these languages for your website.

Why am I having trouble connecting to my FrontPage website?

You may need to change your username field to a fully qualified network name. To make this change, replace the name http# with nt.ptd.net\http#

How can I upload my website content onto my website?

You can use an FTP client of your choice to upload your content.

You will need the following:

  • Hostname/Server: ftp.nt.ptd.net
  • Username: The username for your web account
  • Password: The password for your web account Since this is a Windows Platform, all publicly accessible files should be upload into your main root directory.

Is SFTP available?

No, however, FTP is available. Using an FTP client, connect to ftp.nt.ptd.net and authenticate using the same username and password you using with FrontPage.

Is MySQL available?

No. MySQL is available only with PenTeleData’s Linux web hosting platform. If you require MySQL access, please contact our sales department for platform switching information.

Does chmod work?

No, chmod does not function on the Windows FTP server. File security change requests should be emailed to webmaster@ptd.net.

My website’s statistics are all zero, why?

Either your website has received no visitors during the time the statistics were created or the importing of the statistics information may have failed due to a problem reading your website's log files. Please email webmaster@ptd.net so we can investigate this issue.

Are statistics available for my website?

Yes. To access the statistics for your website, visit http://stats.nt.ptd.net  and enter your server domain (website address) as well as your username and password.

May I use a database on my website?

You may use a Microsoft Access database on your website. If you require an ODBC connection set-up, please contact webmaster@ptd.net with the correct DSN connection information.

What does "author access required" mean?

There may be a problem with the permissions on your website. Please email webmaster@ptd.net for assistance with resolving this issue.

Is sendmail supported?

No, however it is possible to send mail via ASP. More information about accomplishing this is available at http://www.w3schools.com/asp/asp_send_email.asp.

Do you support ASP.net?

Yes, we support ASP.Net on our Windows network. Due to the exclusive nature of ASP.Net, you must either V1.1 or V2.0. All website default to V1.1, so please email webmaster@ptd.net to use V2.0 instead.

How do I upload content to my website?

You can an FTP client such as WS_FTP or CuteFTP to upload your content. If you use an FTP client, you will need the following:

  • Hostname/Server: ftp.ptd.net
  • Username: The username for your web account
  • Password: The password for your web account

All files are placed in a folder called docs in order for visitors of your site to be able to view them. If you have any cgi files, these should be placed in the cgi-bin folder.

What program should I use to connect to the SSH server on ftp.ptd.net?

There are many SSH programs available. On the Windows platform, the most popular is PuTTY, which can be obtained at no charge from http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html . Most Linux distributions include an SSH client. This is the command that would normally be used to connect: "ssh –l username ftp.ptd.net".
