This is non platform specific information regarding PenTeleData hosted websites.

How do I create the content for my website?

Web sites are created in a language called hypertext markup language (HTML). There are many free and commercial software packages that can create your HTML code for you. Some of the more popular applications are Microsoft FrontPage and Adobe Dreamweaver. You can also choose to code your webpage by hand (see next question).

Do you support Dreamweaver?

Yes. Dreamweaver uses the FTP protocol which is supported on our UNIX network.

How do I get a secure (https) site?

You will need a digital certificate. Please contact our sales department for details on obtaining a digital certificate.

What types of statistics are available?

On our Windows web network, we offer LiveStats. Live Stats is included with all Windows web packages. On our UNIX network, we offer wwwstats, which is included with all UNIX web packages, and we also offer NetTracker (a more detailed set of statistics) for an additional fee.

How can I change the email address that LiveStats reports are sent to?

Please email webmaster@ptd.net and we will change the address for you.

Can I change my webmaster account password?

PenTeleData does not allow you to change your website management account password at this time. If you need a new password generated for your webmaster account, please contact our commercial sales department at 800.281.3564 ext 7715.

I’ve forgotten my password. What can I do?

Please contact our sales department for assistance with recovering your password.

Do you allow Perl CGIs?

Yes, but on our UNIX network only.

Can I provide authenticated FTP?

We do not support adding additional users on your site to use authenticated FTP. If you need this feature, please contact our sales department about a managed server.

Do you provide any scripts?

We currently do not provide any scripts for our customers to use. NOTE: Please be cautious of using scripts from Matt’s Script Archive (www.scriptarchive.com (external link)). Many of these scripts cause various problems or security issues that may require us to disable them. Using these scripts is at your own risk.

PenTeleData does suggest using scripts from the following website: http://nms-cgi.sourceforge.net. Please be advised that PenTeleData assumes no responsibility for the creation or use of these programs.

How can I access my statistics using LiveStats?

Go to http://stats.nt.ptd.net  and enter your website address (i.e. ptd.net) as the server domain, and your username and password that you received in your welcome message for your website.

What types of statistics can I view on LiveStats?

Number of visitors, average number of visitors for a time period, bandwidth usage, downloads, time spent per visit, entry pages, exit pages, pages viewed once, time spent per page, bad requests, browser type, browser operating system, visitor languages, website crawlers, referring domains, referring URLs, search phrases, and visitor geographical location. You can also see some information about visitors who are currently viewing your page. This information is available in tables, as well as graphs.

I would like to change the platform (Windows <--> UNIX) that my website is hosted on. What should I do?

Please contact our sales department for assistance with changing your website platform.

Is PHP Supported?

Yes, If you are unable to use PHP pages on your site, please email webmaster@ptd.net so we can investigate the problem.

Are there any websites that can show me how to write HTML code?

There are quite a few websites that can help you with this including:

What name does the index page have to be?

index.htm, index.html, index.shtml or index.php
