Change or Choose Your Default Web Browser

The following instructions will guide you through the process of changing your default web browser.

Google Chrome (Mac)

  1. Begin by opening up Google Chrome and select "Settings" from the tools button at the top right of the page.
  2. In the "Default browser" section at the bottom of the page select "Make Google Chrome my default browser".

Opera (Mac)

  1. Open Opera, click "Opera" in the top menu, and select "Preferences".
  2. A tab will open with a settings page. Click "Make Opera my default browser".

Internet Explorer 7 and 8

  1. Begin by opening up Internet Explorer and select "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu at the top.
  2. The "Internet Options" dialogue will now appear, click on the "Programs" tab along the top.  Under "Default web browser" click "Make default", when finished, select "OK".

Firefox (Mac)

  1. Begin by opening Firefox and choosing "Preferences" from the Firefox menu.
  2. Click "Make Firefox the default browser".

Google Chrome (Windows)

Normally, during the installation of Google chrome, or on first use, you will be prompted with the following window titled "Welcome to Google Chrome".

By putting a checkmark in the "Make Google Chrome the default browser" box and hitting the "Start Google Chrome" button, you will make Google Chrome the default.

By not putting a checkmark in the "Make Google Chrome the default browser" box and hitting the "Start Google Chrome" button, will keep your current browser as your default browser. If in the future you wish to make Google Chrome your default browser, follow the instructions below.

  1. Begin by opening up Google Chrome and select "Settings" from the tools button at the top right of the page.
  2. In the "Default browser" section at the bottom of the page select "Make Google Chrome my default browser".

Internet Explorer 9+

  1. The "Internet Options" dialogue will now appear, click on the "Programs" tab along the top. Under "Default web browser" click "Make default", when finished, select "OK".

Firefox (Windows)

  1. Begin by selecting "Options" from the menu at the top of the window.
  2. The "Options" dialogue will now appear. Click on the "Advanced" tab along the top. Click the "Make Firefox the default browser" button. When finished, select "OK".

Opera (Windows)

Normally, after downloading Opera, on first use, you will be prompted with the following window titled "Use Opera as default Web Browser".

Choosing "Yes" will make Opera your default browser.
Choosing "No", will keep your current browser as your default browser. If in the future you wish to make Opera your default browser, follow the instructions below.

  1. Begin by opening up Opera. Click on the "Opera" menu, highlight "Settings", and select "Preferences".
  2. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  3. Select “Programs” from the left window pane.
  4. Place a check in the box next to "Check if Opera is default browser on startup", click "OK" to continue.
  5. The next time Opera is launched you will be prompted with the following window titled "Use Opera as default Web Browser". Select "Yes". Your computer has now been set up to use Opera 10 as your default web browser

Safari (Mac)

If you have installed an alternative browser (example: Netscape, Firefox, etc.) and Safari no longer appears to be your default web browser, the following instructions will guide you through the process of changing your default web browser back to Safari.

  1. Begin by choosing "Preferences" from the "Safari" menu in the top left of the screen.
  2. Select "Safari (x.x)" from the drop down menu next to "Default web browser". When finished, click on the close button at the top left to save your settings.
