Usenet Newsgroups

img/wiki_up//usenet_group.jpg

Usenet News can be thought of as an electronic discussion forum. While you use electronic mail to send a message to a few specified persons, Usenet News is the equivalent of sending a letter to a newspaper or magazine. Everyone can read your message and everyone has the right of reply.

Usenet News organizes these discussions into broad subject headings called newsgroups. Some newsgroups are for academic discussions, some are for asking questions on specific topics, some are for telling jokes or swapping recipes. Inside each newsgroup, there will be a number of discussions (threads) going on at once about specific subjects. Using Usenet, you can participate in one of the discussion threads, or start one of your own. PenTeleData's Usenet newsgroup service provides access to over 67,000 public message forums. Please see dial-up, DSL and cable account specifications for more details on included monthly newsgroup transfer amounts.
