If you wish to send e-mail while not connected to the PenTeleData network (i.e. you are away from home and using another provider), you will need to use PenTeleData's Promail Server.

The Promail Server requires SMTP Authentication meaning you will be asked to provide your username and password to send e-mail.

  • Click HERE for instructions on how to change the settings of your e-mail program to use the Promail Server.

  • Click HERE for instructions on how to set up your e-mail program for the first time to use the Promail Server.

You will also need to make sure that the "From" e-mail address is your PenTeleData e-mail address. If this address is not a valid PenTeleData e-mail address, your e-mail will not be accepted. If you prefer to have the replies to your e-mail messages sent to a different address such as a Yahoo!, Hotmail, or other provider's address, you can set the "reply-to" e-mail address to the other provider's address. All replies to your e-mail messages will then be sent to your "reply-to" address. For more information about how to change your "reply-to" address, please consult your e-mail program's help files or the program vendor.

You may also use My PenTeleData Webmail to send and receive e-mail when you are not connected to the PenTeleData network. You will not need to make any changes if you use "My PenTeleData Webmail" to send and receive e-mail. To access your e-mail My PenTeleData Webmail, point your browser to www.ptd.net (external link) and click My PenTeleData Webmail on the right side of the page. When prompted, enter your username and password. Your username will be everything before the "@" symbol in your e-mail address. Your password will be the corresponding password for that account. Please note that usernames and passwords are case-sensitive.

Optionally, if you are worried about e-mail security away from home, you may use SSL (Secured Sockets Layer) to connect to the Promail Server. SSL enables you to encrypt your connection to the mail server to prevent a third party from intercepting and reading the messages being sent. Instructions for using SSL are available HERE.
